How do the various investments offered by Emdin differ?

STARVEST, our exclusive micro-fine casting investment, is the most popular investment in the USA. You can cast just about anything with STARVEST including all types of alloys: Gold, Palladium, Nickel, Cobalt, Platinum and Titanium. Further, this can all be done with or without casting rings. Burnout can be slow, fast or the new microwave method. You can also do the pressable ceramics.

Additional Emdin investments were either developed to fulfill the requests and needs of our customers or to match other investments in quality and price range.

All investments will perform well under most circumstances.

Emdin Crown and Bridge phosphate casting investments can be classified into 3 groups as the table shows below.

High Consistency Investments: Liquid to powder ratio: 22 to 28 / 100
Starvest *
Maxavest *
CX-71 *
GLX *
Crystalcast *
Duracast-XE
Castrite - CB
Castrite-NP *
Omnicast - LP
These investments are micro fine grain materials and give the best casting surface, break up cleanly and easily, and are more consistent from batch to batch. Their use will generally result in less rework and finishing.
Medium Consistency Investment: Liquid to powder ratio: 18 to 21 / 100
Qwest * A very good investment for all types of alloys. Can be fast fired for use in both crown & bridge work as well as casting chrome partials. For ring and ringless firing.
Low Consistency Investments: Liquid to powder ratio: 14 to 17
Hi-Therm
Totalcast *
These investments are good when the price is the primary factor in selecting an investment. Harder than the other investments, nevertheless, they serve very well for dental castings

* - Fast burnout casting investments
